Sacred Cash Cow

After 25 years, some people still can't move on. With thousands of people flocking to New York to commemorate the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death, his family and attention seeking musical artists are patiently waiting by for the royalty checks. Sensational death, even two decades later, is still big money.

Among the artists on tap to cash in on the festivities are Dave Matthews, Paul Weller, 1960s pop star Lulu ("To Sir With Love"), Avril Lavigne, Black Eyed Peas, the Cure, and New Age, flautist Michael Rose.

All of these people are looking to gain access to the 22 million dollars John Lennon still generates annually. And while maybe the camp fire sing along by marginal recording artists could be dismissed as a tribute, the rest of junk being peddled to consumers this year reeks of suspicious timing. Oh sure, there are teary eyed remembrances:

"I could not open that part of my heart while it's still shaking." (Yoko Ono)

"It's very sad for the family when it's all brought up again. The anniversary of his death is upsetting enough without this as well." (Stanley Parkes)

Yes, truly touching. And you the consumer can be a part of the family's grieving process by purchasing an one of the following items, released just in time for the holidays: multiple compilations CDs, mp3 downloads from the artists listed above, a least 3 new books, network TV documentaries, and of course the John Lennon Jewelry Connection.

The John Lennon Jewelry Connection, because nothing says Power To The People and Give Peace A Chance quite like a wristwatch and a pinky ring.
