Person(s) of the Year

Greetings lowly readers of In A Word, I will be your substitute blogger today and my name is Mr. Walsh, IrishWalsh to be exact from The Mind of IrishWalsh. A blog that is far superior to this one if I do say so myself…and I do.

Today class we are going to talk about the folks over at Time Magazine and their yearly contest where they select the “Person of the Year”. The deliberation on their selection has been carried out by the team of elite judges selected from the “talent” residing in the dankest fetid media newsrooms in the nation. Such early nominations were Mother Nature and decapitating terror leader al-Zarqawi, so you can imagine my relief when at the 11th hour someone opened a window to the secret selection room deep in the bowels of the Time Magazine’s lair allowing in a breath of common sense to drift in from the outside world. They could not select just one as that would be much to straightforward, so the winners are Bill Gates, his wife Melinda and some guy name Boner or Bono or something like that. Congratulations to them as they each deserve recognition for their combined effort in combating hunger in African countries. Yes…even Bono (pictured, flamboyantly teasing dehydrated Africans with his ice cold Evian) who gained notoriety for himself and his band by singing about the plight of the Irish and the troubles in Northern Ireland but who has now moved on to higher profile causes. He will be relieved to know a peace treaty was actually reached without him…but I digress.

While Bono brings world attention to Africa with his benefit concert after benefit concert calling for the wealthy nations to give handouts to the poorest, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have not only infused massive amounts of cash into the region but have decided that just giving a check to the governments of the most corrupt nations of the world and asking them to please feed their residents was not the wisest way to do it. Bill and Melinda Gates have ran their efforts to aid Africa the same way he has built the largest software developer in the world, by using proven business methods and overseeing the usage of money and its dispersal with pinpoint accuracy. He realizes that shotgunning money at Africa’s problems will do nothing but feed them for a day and that building an independent future is more important then a billion benefit concerts or sacks of oatmeal. It is through wisdom like this and increased democratic influence that we may actually see an end to Africa’s trouble that decades of benefit concerts have as of yet failed to cure.

As much vitriolic sentiment as I have spewed in the past about not only Bono and Bill Gates but people’s methods for “helping” Africa, it brings me great joy to say they are finally getting their acts together and congratulate them both along with Melinda Gates on being Time Magazine’s Person(s) of the Year.

Well Jordan should be back later today kids and I thank you for letting me stop in to In A Word for the day. Don't forget to swing on over to The Mind of IrishWalsh and say hello now!
