Iowa Road Trip

Welcome to the brand spankin' new In A Word's Iowa Road Trip of statewide blogs. I am hoping to compile compelling post snippets of Iowa blogs and present them here on In A Word. Of course, the frequency will depend on my time and their content. However, this is my "tip of the hat" to a lot of great writers and thinkers here in Iowa. Many is the time I have turned to their blogs to get the creative juices flowing.

So, sit back, buckle up and away we go...

Iowa Voice: Liberals Try To "Explain" Why Bush Poll Numbers Are Rising
The Iowa Voice always seems to break the news of new Democrat whining first. I can always count on Brian to point me to the newest quotes and general stupidity from the left. Today, Iowa Voice explains how Democrats are taking credit for Bush's poll numbers rising.

Tusk And Talon: College Debt
Tusk and Talon takes a story about students loans off of State 29 and runs with it. I particularity like this take:
Another factor that isn't mentioned is that the Pell Grants and student loans that the Register pines for are themselves a cause of the increasing debt load. This is because the ease with which students can receive thousands and tens of thousands of dollars a year in student loans encourages students who are not ready for college to enter college.
Simply put, some people aren't ready or cut out for college, but the student loans entice them in.

Mainstream Iowan: Debunking A Conspiracy Theory About President Bush

This post, without a doubt, was my favorite story of the week. It is simply a link from Mainstream Iowan to the Chicago Tribune in which they analyze the Bush administrations reasons for going to war. I was very impressed with the conclusions the Chicago Tribune made, I felt they were very fair. And frankly, it was a little refreshing to read a news analysis that doesn't contain all the usually rhetoric.

The Mind of IrishWalsh: Save the Duckbilled Platypuss'eses

And finally, I have to give a shout out to my buddy IrishWalsh. His blog always contains funny links of irrelevant crap. It is like Fark.com without all the clutter. And if you choose to navigate away to his site, you can always read a fascinating guest editorial by yours truly.

So, if you have had your daily fill of In A Word then click away and visit some of the great bloggers Iowa has to offer. Of course, as with any road trip make sure you return home to In A Word when you are done.
