There was a lot of grumbling within the Democratic party on Friday about the amount of vacation time Senator Joseph Lieberman (Conn.) has been taking lately.
"He has been to Iraq, what like 4 times in the last 17 months?" Senator Harry Reid of Nevada fumed, "how many vacations does one man need in a year and half?"
"Um, hello, there is a war at home too...the public opinion war," Representative Nancy Pelosi of California explained, "with Joe taking all these personal days and jetting off to exotic Iraq all time other Democrats have had to shoulder a greater burden of constantly attacking Bush. Us liberals are getting worn thin, I mean look at Dean for God's sake!"
For the first time in years the Democrats seem to be unified on an issue besides the general hatred of Bush...the hatred of Lieberman.
"O.K. you know it is getting bad when have to trot John Kerry out in front of the press again," moaned Tom Matzzie, the Washington director for MoveOn.org, "we need Joe to start toe-ing the party line again and stop thinking for himself. We could really use his common sense approach representing the liberal side of things on TV show like "Face The Nation."
"I mean," continued Matzzie, "did you see the train wreck that was John Kerry on TV last week? Claiming US troops were terrorizing children...and to think I voted for him."
When asked to comment on the backlash from his own party, Lieberman waved off questions a strolled away.
However, In A Word Political Insider believe they heard him mumble something under his breath along lines of: "why do the libs always hafta be all up in my bizness? They are bringing the J-Man down." Of course, he might have said "no comment," it was hard to tell.
